This work of fiction is set in Madison, Wisconsin, where the author used to reside. The author uses first hand knowledge about police procedure and crimes etc., having previously worked in both the court system and the District Attorney's Office while living in Madison.
The main character of Murder In Madison is Lt. JJ Johnson, who has been a widower for two years, is a 55 year old veteran of the police department who is contemplating retirement in the near future when horrible murders are committed. He is put in charge of the task force charged with solving the multiple murders. One Saturday evening, two days before the task force is formed to investigate the murders, Lt. Johnson meets a lovely divorcee, Tommy (short for Thomasina)while in a restaurant. JJ and Tommy sit at the bar trying real hard not to notice one another while the bartender watches their fumbling in amusement. They know they have something special and eventually get married, much to the delight of JJ's partner.
The murderer is elusive but is finally caught and sent to jail. Or is he? You will have to read the book to find out.
